Visit Beton Hala Restaurants on the Riverfront

    Beton Hala by Maja Simov

Our previous article was dedicated to Belgrade's creative district and hub Savamala. So, today we continue in the same direction. Guiding you through the most interesting and the coolest venues in Belgrade.

Beton Hala (Concrete Hall) stands in 2-4 “Karadjordjeva” street, in the neighborhood of Savamala. It is located near the city harbor, on the Sava river. The current Concrete hall in the first decade of this century is intensively used for tourism, hospitality and commercial purposes, especially with arrival of foreign tourists and citizens of Belgrade revealing great potential of  Belgrade rivers.

Beton Hala contains the entire line of trendy restaurants and clubs. Communale, Italian restaurant. Represents on of the best designed interiors in town. The pioneering effort of many Serbian caterers and restaurant owners to introduce community tables almost never come to fruition.  Here interior designer Aleksandar Rodić manages an uncompromising space full of just this with no alternatives. The aesthetics are clean and monochromatic, as the architecture of the space itself.

One of the most famous places on the riverfront is definitely Cantina de Frida. Crowded by day and by night when it works as a lounge. The concept of the restaurant is inspired by the life and the work of Frida Kahlo. Spanish and Mexian dishes are on the menu. As we remember, food is one of the best in Beton Hala.

Iguana. Asian food restaurant, a bit more expansive than others at this location, but offers jazz nights, live bands and nice cuisine. Stuff is very pleasent. Interior is modern and minimalistic and fits into the entire appearance of Beton Hala.

     Toro restaurant

Toro latin gastrobar. Our favorite place. Mixed interior, enriched with a lot of cool details. The first level is laid back: walls of white bricks and wood, comfortable sofas, colorful wooden and plastic chairs, wallpapers and open kitchen. While, the second level is more refined. The concept of the restaurant offer is based on small plates and South American flavors. Cocktails are awesome and the food is fresh. Cool music selection and descent prices.

Sakura. Nice looking lounge and Asian food restaurant. One of those hip places in the city.
Good restaurant for sushi and sea food lovers and people who like to feel trendy.

Beton. Up-market club that features house and r'n'b' music. On of those poser type city clubs. Fancy outfits and selfies.

    Kran club

Also, there's one newly open multi-purpose space called Kran.
Kran stands on the beginning of Beton Hala. Definitely more alternative than the other we mentioned so far. Very catchy interior design, a bit traditional and a bit vintage.
Works as a restaurant, cocktail bar and a club that supports jazz, rock and blues musicians.

You can park on the rooftop garage if you are traveling by car. If not, tram 2 will lead you to this venue. Or you can walk from the city centere, It will take you around 15 to 20 minutes.

Prices are similar in all Beton Hala restaurants. Ranging from 4 to 20 euros.

If you need accommodation near the riverfront, City Break Apartments can provide nice looking and fully equipped apartments called Savamala, Palace 29 and Soho. Just to note that city center is very near, 10 minutes by foot from Savamala, where you can also find cozy and good looking apartments provided by our company that operates in Belgrade for many years.

Visit Savamala Belgrade's"Creative District"

Urban regeneration. Moving from urban decay towards urban chic. That's Savamala. It all started around 2008. Renewal of ex industrial buildings, mostly warehouses are turned into art galleries, culture centers, bars and clubs. Public art beautifies devastated facades. Graffiti and murals represent a crucial part of regeneration. Local street artist enriched the facades with a help of foreign guests. Each year in the time of Mikser festival a new mural appears. Savamala slowly became town's creative hub and district. City Break Apartments always recommends this area to our guests as a must visit Belgrade district for cultural and night life.

Club culture is vivid. Each month a new place pops up. On the picture you can see Mikser house, a venue that represents a part of Savamala's creative industry. It's a big place that serves as a concert hall, club, bar, restaurant, design show room and a shop.

Right next you can see Savamala's trio- Radost (restaurant), Ludost and Mladost (bar and club) connected with a corridor. Just across the street Gallery 12 New Media Hub showcases exhibitions related to new media arts. Here you can see artworks of locals as Simonida Rajcevic or Dzoni Rackovic or even performance of NYC based artists Eleana Katz.

In Brace Krsmanovica street Culture Centre Grad (KC Grad) is located. It's the most visited and the coolest culture center in town. Creates exhibitions, debates, movie-screenings, festivals, DJ gigs and concerts. The most visited events are Moda za poneti (Takeaway Fashion)-local fashion and jewelry designers are selling their products in duration of three days and Delikatesni ponedeljak (Deli Monday)-every Monday at 19h the special guests are cooking food for everybody. The price of the coupon is 150 RSD. Of course you can buy more than one.

In the same street, Dvorištance and Peron are cool alternative clubs. Ben Akiba, stand up comedy and a cocktail bar is worth a visit. Next to it stands Tranzit, a new up-market restaurant.
If you are one of those beer drinkers and sausage lovers don't miss newly open Berliner pub.

Beautiful old building on the picture stands right next to colorful staircase. In the penthouse you can visit Apartman, one of the rare gay and lesbian clubs in the city. If you feel hungry you can eat in Gnezdo Organic, a cozy organic restaurant that stands on the 3rd floor and works in the afternoon. In the well hidden yard stands Basta, one of the finest jazz bars in Belgrade. Vintage interior and well prepared cocktails mixed with perfect location made this bar favorite of many.

If you need accommodation in this hip neighborhood of Belgrade, City Break Apartments can provide nice looking and fully equipped apartments called Savamala, Palace 29 and Soho. Just to note that city center is very near, 10 minutes by foot from Savamala, where you can also find cozy and good looking apartments provided by our company that operates in Belgrade for many years.

The BermudaTriangle in Belgrade

The Bermuda Triangle in the center of Belgrade... Sounds interesting, right?

Many older people from Belgrade, especially true bohemians, have really nice memories of the three pubs they used to call the Bermuda Triangle. Some of these older bohemians tell stories about how this whole neighborhood got that mystical name.

If you want to feel the real spirit of this neighbourhood you can find accommodation in Belgrade and stay in one of City Break Apartments that are settled in the heart of this area.

Story says that regular customers in these pubs were, mostly, journalist and young writers looking for inspiration. Once they entered, days would pass until they came out. It was, like they somehow disappeared.

Parts of the Bermuda Triangle in Belgrade were "Sumatovac", "Grmec" and "Pod lipom", and they were located on the square, which today is known as Journalistic Square. Unfortunately, today they are not all on the same place. "Sumatovac" kept his place and although changed, it is still very popular. "Grmec" also changed and became an art pub, but "Pod lipom" is not part of this triangle anymore. So, some things have changed, but one thing is the same. These pubs are still favorite place for journalist, writers and other artists, but also for tourists who like to experience the spirit of art in Belgrade.

On that square is located a monument to Mosa Pijade, a famous journalist, painter, art critic and revolutionary. The idea of making this monument was born ten years after his death and it is work of sculptor Branko Ruzic. It represents one modern sculpture with Mosa Pijade in the center surrounded by a group of listeners.

The building "Politika", or Palace "Politika" as some like to call it, is located behind the monument. It was built 1968. and all these years it is home to oldest daily newspaper, whose first issue came out in 1904. In the same building are also Politika radio and television channel.

In a very close neighborhood people can enjoy watching different performances in one of Belgrade's most famous theatres, "Atelje 212". It is located in Svetogorska Street. In front of the building there is a monument of Zoran Radmilovic, who was one of the best Serbian actors. He was very popular acting in the performance of Radovan III. His monument is the first colored sculpture in Belgrade.

A favorite place for actors from" Atelje 212" is definitely "Srpska kafana", located in the same street. This pub is much more than just a pub. It is some kind of other home, because the stuff is very kind and polite, and the atmosphere is pleasant so it really feels like home. With very long tradition, delicious dishes and many actors and other celebrities at the tables, this pub offers an unforgettable experience. Inside people can see the table where Zoran Radmilovic used to sit. Also, this pub is important because here was born the idea of manifestation "Street of open heart", which is a very popular manifestation during the Christmas holidays.

Houses of many important people in Serbia are something that tourists should certainly visit. The house of Laza Lazarevic, famous doctor and writer, is located in Hilandarska Street. Today in this house is Children's Department of the Belgrade City Library. In Svetogorska street there are the house of Uros Predic, famous painter, and Home of Jevrem Grujic which is the first house that was declared as Cultural monument of great value.
As you can see, this part of Belgrade is very interesting and full of possibilities. Tourists can enjoy theatre performances, drinking and relaxing in some great pubs, learn about Serbian painters and writers and visit their home, see monuments of great importance... And if all that is not exciting enough, very close there are The Republic Square with National Theatre and National Museum, pedestrian zone Knez Mihailova and bohemian quarter Skadarlija.

Best of all is that you can stay in these part of Belgrade in very modern and luxury City Break Apartments. There are Apartment Radio Funky, Apartment House, Apartment Klishe Zen in Hilandarska Street, and Apartment Silver in Svetogorska Street. All apartments are stylish and elegant units decorated with taste and fully equipped and renovated. In the case of Apartment House there is also backyard with outdoor furniture. If you stay in one of these apartments you will be in the center of Belgrade, but you will not be disturbed by vehicle noise, so you can have your peace after long walks over the city.

In the end we can only say : "Come and enjoy"!
